Peridot forms 20 to 55 miles beneath Earth’s surface, deeper than most gemstones, crystallizing under extreme heat and pressure. It's brought up by volcanic activity and found in basalt rock. Remarkably, some peridot also comes from outer space! Discovered in meteorites called pallasites, making peridot one of the few gems with both earthly and extraterrestrial origins.
